Jake’s record of successful dispute resolution, ability to fashion creative solutions for personal injury and general civil cases, and commitment to achieving durable and reasonable results distinguish his reputation as a Mediator. He uses a combination of facilitative and evaluative techniques to afford the parties a customized process for case resolution.

Jake has mediated over 200 cases, primarily involving personal injury issues. During his 21-year career as a personal injury lawyer, he has handled an extended range of complex litigation and transactional matters.

Jake has specialized knowledge and experience in the following substantive areas: personal injury, insurance coverage and allocation, medical malpractice, and wrongful death.

Prior to becoming a full-time neutral, Jake was affiliated with various civil dispute firms and in 1981 began his own personal injury practice.

Jake conducts mediations by private referral and is also a member of the Los Angeles County Superior Court's Pro Bono mediator panel as well as the Early Mediation Pilot Program. He has studied at Pepperdine University and attended ‘Mediating the Litigated Case’. Furthermore, Jake has received training from the Los Angeles County Bar Association on the topic of ‘Increasing Success in Mediation’ and ‘Transforming and Transcending Conflict’ offered by the Southern California Mediation Association. Additionally Jake has received training from the Los Angeles County Bar Association in Advanced Family Law and from the Los Angeles Superior Court a course in Cross-Cultural Mediation.

In addition, Jake’s dispute resolution training includes attendance at numerous Bar Association seminars, workshops and conferences designed to enhance negotiation and communication skills.

A graduate of the University of Southern California with Magna Cum Laude in Business, with special emphasis Management and Urban Studies, Jake also received his J.D at UCLA. Jake currently maintains membership in the California State Bar, as well as the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He also serves on the Operations Sub-Committee of ADR at the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Jake devotes his personal time as a Member of The California Basketball Officials Assoc. is formerly Judge Pro-Tem Small claims and traffic, and additionally Jake is pursuing graduate study in the philosophy and practice of Yoga at Loyola Marymount University.

Biography

Born in New York, NY and raised in nearby Mt. Vernon, Jake moved to Los Angeles at the age of 17 to obtain his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration at the University of Southern California. During this time Jake was involved in student politics, and was a play-by-play Sports personality on KUSC Radio, and began his avocation as a basketball referee, sat as a student member of 3 University Committees, and graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Jake Jacobs then received his JD from UCLA while still doing play by play on KLA and moving up to officiate Division I level Women’s basketball.

After college Jake became a successful Plaintiff’s Personal Injury Trial Attorney culminating in 5 years on the Board of Governor’s of CAALA and being a featured speaker at MCLE accredited seminars for CAALA.

Jake retired from active practice in 1999 and began to focus entirely on his mediation practice in 2002.

His prior eclectic work experience lends well to mediating in all arenas of litigation and Jake Jacobs offers his services in both Hawaii and his own relaxed Oceanside location in Pacific Palisades California.
